Starter motor commutators for marine engines
Salt air corrodes copper fast, and a marine starter is often the hardest part on the boat to get at. When the commutator goes green, pitted or flat-spotted, a replacement commutator on the existing armature is usually quicker and cheaper than sourcing a marine-rated starter, especially for inboard diesels and generators.
What we see with marine starters
- Inboard diesels, bow thrusters, anchor windlasses and onboard generators
- Common starter brands: Bosch, Valeo, Delco Remy, Prestolite, Hitachi
