UK rewind shops have had one place to buy commutators, with long lead times and prices that kept rising, or the choice of importing them in euros with the duty bill landing after the parcel. We started UK Commutators to give them a second source that behaves like a UK supplier.
What we do
We supply new commutators, made to drawing, for DC motor armatures being rewound or repaired: industrial, traction, lift, crane, mill and generator machines, from small moulded units to large V-ring commutators. We also supply twelve typical starter and alternator sizes and make anything else to measure.
We started UK Commutators after seeing how long UK rewind shops wait for a replacement commutator, and how much they pay for it. The parts themselves are made by specialist factories abroad; what was missing was a UK company to check the drawing, quote quickly, handle the import and stand behind the part. That is what we do.
How we work
We are a UK company and the customer deals only with us. Parts are made to order by specialist commutator factories and imported by us, so you see one price in pounds, pay nothing at the door, and get a UK VAT invoice. Every quote is checked against the drawing before it goes to manufacture; if a measurement looks wrong we say so rather than make the wrong part.
Lead time is on the quote, not in the small print: a standard sea-freight time and an urgent air option for every part.
